I am Deepakbhai Bhavanbhai Patel from Navsari district of Gujarat and Mango Farming is my main profession. Earlier my father and forefather used to do farming and in 1991, I also adopted my ancestor’s profession and begin farming with 20 acres land. I started farming vegetables and different varieties of mangoes like Jumbo Kesar, Langra, Rajapuri, Alphonso, Dasheri, and Totapuri in my farm. Slowly my interest bent toward fruit cultivation and I started growing mango commercially.
To achieve success and improve mango yield, I took help from Universities and followed guidelines and instructions as given by them. This is how I expanded by farming expanse from 20 to 65 acres, and I also take 75 acres land on lease. Today I have diversified my crop pattern which includes vegetables, mangoes, coconut, turmeric, yam, kalipatti chikoo, banana and coconut, and this helps me a lot in giving a boost in my income.
There also came a down moment in my life when I was diagnosed with tongue cancer. In the recovering process I lost my ability to speak, but I never let my disability turn into my life’s inability. Today, I am a healthy fine man with good farming expertise. Many people visit my farm to seek guidance and I always help them.
